How to Choose Moustache Wax

Choosing the right moustache wax is mostly a question of hold, hair colour and how much persuasion your whiskers require.

For strong hold and handlebar moustaches: Bounder

Choose Bounder Extra-Firm Moustache Wax if you want our original strong-hold wax for handlebar moustaches, sharp tips, unruly whiskers and everyday control. It is handmade in England and designed for a firm, non-greasy finish.

For grey, white, silver or salt-and-pepper hair: Buffer

Choose Buffer Moustache & Beard Wax if you want strong control in a paler wax for grey, white, silver or salt-and-pepper facial hair. It is made for moustaches and beards where darker wax is not wanted.

For more detail on lighter facial hair, see Best Moustache Wax for Grey and White Hair.

Single tin or triple pack?

A 10g tin is a good place to start if you are new to Wax Industries. The triple pack is better value for daily users, larger moustaches, or gentlemen who prefer not to run out at an inconvenient moment.

How much wax should I use?

Start with a small amount. Warm the wax between finger and thumb, work it into the moustache, then shape with fingers or a comb. Add more only if needed. Command is admirable; clumping is not. For step-by-step instructions, see How to Apply Moustache Wax.

What about shaving soap and grooming extras?

For traditional wet shaving, choose Lubrico Pure Glycerine Shaving Soap. For small signs of allegiance, the Bounder lapel badge is available to gentlemen of suitable disposition.

Still unsure?

For most customers: choose Bounder for maximum moustache control, Buffer for grey or white facial hair, and the triple pack once you know which wax your whiskers prefer.

FAQs

A little goes a long, long way — Bounder is small but mighty! Other waxes are generally a basic blend of beeswax and petroleum jelly, or another oil, which have to be rubbed to be soft enough to apply and then harden as they cool.

Bounder is different. Its non-greasy formula works by drying, not cooling. So, to prevent it going hard in a big, half-used container, we offer a triple-pack of our standard tin. Always fresh and always convenient to carry in pocket or bag or purse.

When you first open a tin of Bounder it will be smooth, creamy and easy to apply.
A quick scoop with the back of a thumbnail and it is ready to tame your ‘tache.

However, if you have found a long-forgotten tin and the contents have dried out, do not fear!
Your Bounder can be easily revived and put back to work on your whiskers.

• Bounder can be revived by simply warming and stirring in a drop or two of rum or any other spirits.

 • Warm it by putting a bit of paper in a frying pan (to catch any spills), place the tin on top (with lid removed) and very gently heat it on the lowest setting.

• When it is not quite liquid, stir in just a couple of drops of rum (or any other spirit - even just water, in an emergency)

• And “drops” means just that - do not add more than one or two; you can repeat the process if required.

• Turn off the heat and and let everything cool with the lid placed, unscrewed, on top of the tin. Be patient - do not test until it is at room temperature.

 • Do not try and seal it whilst liquid as there is a high chance of spilling it (molten Bounder gets everywhere, instantly) and, even if successful, the vacuum created as it cools will make getting back into the tin with anything less than a pneumatic drill practically impossible.

We sell direct to keep prices a low as possible but if you have a store or outlet you’d like to see stocking Bounder then please ask them to get in touch with us. We have supplied businesses around the world.
